Jim Acosta of CNN said Saturday that the lies and propaganda being dished out at Fox News by host Tucker Carlson is a threat to democracy and only serves to divide Americans instead of uniting the nation.
During a discussion of Afghan refugees coming to the United States, Acosta noted:
“Over on Fox, human manure spreader Tucker Carlson has floated yet another race baiting conspiracy theory that tens of thousands of Afghan refugees are being sent over to this country in order to change the outcome of elections.”
The real threat, Acosta continued, took place on January 6 when thousands of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol and tried to delay certification of the electoral votes that made Joe Biden president.
That insurrection, Acosta noted, is ongoing, with Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) threatening “bloodshed” if the GOP doesn’t get its way.
And then there’s the harsh anti-abortion law passed this week in Texas and left in place by the Supreme Court, Acosta concluded:
“It is starting to look like a combination of theocracy and thugocracy. The leaders of this MAGAban movement, people Marjorie, Madison and Tucker, they’re not counting on an intelligence failure or a lack of planning on your part. They’re counting on a lack of courage to stand up for your rights in this country. Does that ring a bell?
“The anti-immigration, anti-democratic, anti-women’s rights forces have all sought these kinds of changes for years, even decades, in this country. Their operation to change America forever is well underway.”
The Republican Party has taken on the appearance of a domestic terrorist group. And considering that some on the party have defended terrorist thugs such as the Proud Boys, it’s clear that the GOP is committed to the principle of power over country. They won’t be happy until they get their way on every issue.
Kudos to Jim Acosta for saying what needed to be said.
