Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) suggested Friday that rapper Nicki Minaj should be former President Donald Trump’s running mate if Trump decides to run for president again in 2024.

Why does Gaetz believe Minaj should get the call? Because she posted the numbers of two reporters on Instagram, which led to her fans bombarding the reporters with threats.

Newsweek notes that all of this comes after a week of controversy surrounding Minaj’s comments that her cousin has a friend in Trinidad who received the COVID-19 vaccine and became impotent as a result.

The story about Minaj’s cousin’s friend quickly became an international issue, with Trinidad and Tobago’s health minister Terrence Deyalsingh saying on Wednesday “there is absolutely no reported such side effect or adverse event of testicular swelling in Trinidad, or I dare say anywhere. None that we know of anywhere else in the world.

“We had to check and make sure that what she was claiming was either true or false,” Deyalsingh told a news conference. “Unfortunately, we wasted so much time yesterday running down this false claim. As far as we know at this point in time, there has been no such reported either side effect or adverse event.”

Yet despite the fact that Minaj’s claim has been fact-checked and completely debunked, Gaetz posted this:

Gaetz was thoroughly mocked on social media for his suggestion for the 2024 GOP ticket:

Doesn’t Matt have anything better to do these days? He’s facing the prospect of spending the rest of his life in prison for sexually trafficking an underage girl. And one thing’s for certain: He won’t be able tweet once he’s incarcerated.
