According to former Vice President Mike Pence — whose life was directly threatened on Jan. 6 when thousands of pro-Trump supporters stormed the Capitol — reporting on the insurrection and investigating what transpired on that day is nothing more than an attempt to “demean the character” of the people who cast a ballot for Donald Trump.

Pence made his remarks Monday evening during an appearance on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show, telling the host:

“I know the media wants to distract from the Biden administration’s failed agenda by focusing on one day in January. They want to use that one day to try and demean the character and intentions of 74 million Americans who believed we could be strong again and prosperous again and supported our administration in 2016 and 2020.”

Wow! What an incredibly selective memory Pence has. Apparently, he’s forgotten that the rioters were chanting “Hang Mike Pence” as they forced their way into Congress and began looting the building, resulting in the deaths of five people, including an officer with the Capitol Police.

On Twitter, Pence was reminded of exactly what took place during the insurrection and what the intent of the rioting was: To carry out a coup that would allow Trump to remain in office despite having been overwhelmingly rejected by the American people.
