The January 6th Select Committee is being held accountable for treating Donald Trump and his henchmen with kid gloves instead of going after them for trying to overthrow democracy.
The committee recently issued subpoenas to several Trump associates, including former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, former campaign manager Steve Bannon, former Deputy Chief of Staff and Social Media Director Dan Scavino, and former Pentagon official Kash Patel.
Refusing to comply with a subpoena from Congress should result in jail time. But despite Bannon’s refusal to comply because Trump ordered him not to, the committee has not decided to play hardball in response.
That has led GOP strategist Rick Wilson to blast the committee as nothing more than a sham designed to let Trump and his insurrectionist pals escape legal accountability for their seditious conspiracy to overthrow the Constitution.
1/ I have some bad news. After multiple calls I have some extremely grim news.
As of now 1/6 commission is dead already, and will not enforce the subpoenas.
Trump wins.
The 1/6 terror plot will go unexamined and unpunished.
To say I’m livid is putting it mildly.

3/ I’m told that the whole plan is to bring in academics to examine the information from that day, when it should be a LE/IC style counterterrorism investigation.
The leadership has already decided to slow roll it and write a tsk tsk memo at the end.
— Rick Wilson (@TheRickWilson) October 8, 2021
5/ Stay locked in your bubble that the modern GOP won’t have a mob of Bannon’s terrorists burn you to the ground and piss on the ashes.
An unpunished coup is a training exercise.
End.

Indeed, the committee needs to step up and be tough on Trump and his allies. Allowing any of them to skate would ensure that there will be another insurrection attempt. This time lawmakers could actually be assassinated and democracy ended. We would have a right-wing dictator instead of a government elected by the people. Perhaps now would be a good time to compare the January 6th Committee to Neville Chamberlain, because their failure to act now only allows the Nazis to organize a successful coup.
The Capitol insurrection must be taken seriously and that means those who organized, incited, aided and perpetrated it must be arrested, prosecuted, and locked up.
In response, the January 6th Committee insisted that Wilson is wrong.
This is all nonsense⬇️⬇️⬇️ https://t.co/dtWCRJhgGF

Wilson, along with many Americans, called out the committee by telling them to prove it.
I want NOTHING more than for y’all to saddle up and star holding bad guys to account. Right now, the bad guys think you’re weak and they’re laughing at you.
So get to it. https://t.co/BiWBufXqoA

Then:
Do not “consider”.
Do not “reflect upon”. Do not “delay”.Stop being the nice guys/gals and get ‘er done.
Just do it.

It did get you to answer him, though, which is a good thing.
Please, asking for America: are laws laws, or just guidelines to be ignored by the rich and powerful?

The fact that the subpoenas were ignored should have been considered when they were issued, with a plan in place and ready to go.
Quit wasting freaking time.

The deadline to comply with the subpoenas has come and gone, yet Bannon still walks free. Trump is also still walking free despite ordering Bannon to defy a subpoena. I remember when Susan McDougal went to prison for 18 months for not complying with a subpoena to testify during the Whitewater controversy in 1996. It’s time for the committee to bare its teeth and send a message to Trump and everyone connected to him and his insurrection attempt that this is not a game.
