Disgraced former Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. told a gathering of QAnon conspiracy theory devotees at the “For God & Country Patriot Double Down” gathering being held in Las Vegas this weekend that what transpired at the U.S. Capitol on January 6 wasn’t actually an insurrection. Instead, he insisted, it was little more than a “frat party.”

Speaking to attendees on Saturday, Clarke tried to minimize the horrors of Jan. 6, according to Newsweek:

“Words matter. You’ve got the Left running around talking about this insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Ladies and gentlemen, that was not an insurrection. If we decide to pull an insurrection, you’re gonna know it. There’s very little you’re going to be able to do about it.

“The only thing I had against what happened at the Capitol on January 6, if you’re going to pull a political movement, you’ve got to have three elements: It has to be serious, it’s got to be well-planned and it’s got to be disciplined.”

As images of rioters sitting with their feet up on desks the day they stormed the Capitol were projected on a screen, Clarke told the audience:

“What happened on January 6 was not serious. It’s not serious, it’s just not.”

Another photograph showed a rioter carrying a Confederate flag, prompting Clarke to say:

“Why? I don’t make a big deal over a Confederate flag. That’s not me. But we don’t need that. It delegitimizes what we’re trying to do. Carry the United States flag through there. Carry the Gadsden flag if you want to. But we don’t need this. It’s not serious and it’s not disciplined.”

That’s mighty big talk coming from a man who had to resign over allegations of mistreating and even killing inmates at his jail. He pretends to have some sort of legitimacy, but the simple fact is neither he or any of the would-be insurrectionists would last for more than a few minutes if they were facing a battle with the American military and the full brunt of police force that could be brought to bear on them.

Clarke,  QAnon adherents, and the hardcore dead-enders who still support Donald Trump are nothing more than a cult. They want to be seen as a legitimate political force, but they’re just losers who like to carry assault rifles and pretend they’re still relevant.
