Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) is one of the few Republicans who are willing to defend our election system against lies spewed by her fellow Republicans and Fox News hosts.
Fox News, in particularly Tucker Carlson, has been lying about the election and the Capitol insurrection for months, not only repeating Donald Trump’s false claims but also insisting that the attempted coup to overthrow our democracy was nothing but a “false flag” operation orchestrated by Democrats to make conservatives look bad.
Now Carlson and the network are promoting a new special in defense of the insurrectionists that will once again peddle election conspiracies.
Cheney, who serves on the House 1/6 Committee, took to Twitter to call out both Carlson and Fox News.
It appears that @FoxNews is giving @TuckerCarlson a platform to spread the same type of lies that provoked violence on January 6. As @FoxNews knows, the election wasn’t stolen and January 6 was not a “false flag” operation. @rupertmurdoch @jayawallace @Suzannescott @SpeakerRyan https://t.co/ODKZFVUFBa

Cheney would go on to double down on her tweet just hours later.
Re-upping this tweet so everyone can see the whole thing, including the part @TuckerCarlson was afraid to show. Tucker: are you still falsely contending the voting machines were corrupted and the election was stolen? https://t.co/SHpqhST65a

The House 1/6 Committee recently voted to hold Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena. It is also seeking documents from the former Trump administration that could implicate Trump and his circle of allies, including Republican members of Congress.
While most Republicans are denying reality and refusing to hold insurrectionists accountable for their crimes, Cheney has repeatedly made it clear that she is having none of it. She voted to impeach Trump and she voted to create the committee on which she serves. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) appointed Cheney to the committee to guarantee that a sane Republican would be participating instead of the biased Trump lackeys House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) offered up before he pulled the nominations
in protest of Pelosi rejecting two of his picks.
Perhaps the House 1/6 Committee should investigate Fox News and Tucker Carlson to explore the role they played, if any, in the insurrection. After all, Trump’s propaganda machine should be held accountable as well.
