Speaking on Veterans Day in her home state of Colorado, GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert claimed that her service in Congress is much the same as the men and women of the U.S. armed forces who protect the country from all enemies.

Newsweek reports that Boebert made her remarks to a small crowd, telling them:

“As your congresswoman, it is my proper role to keep you free. And that is what I’m fighting for each and every day, just as each of you have fought to keep us free in the greatest nation that this world has ever known.”

Wait a minute. Isn’t this the same Lauren Boebert who has repeatedly made excuses for the thousands of pro-Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, resulting in in the deaths of five people, including a police officer? For her to even speak her name in the same breath as the Americans who volunteer to remain vigilant in the face of the many threats around the world is both disgusting and hypocritical.

It didn’t take long before reaction to Boebert’s absurd comments began, with VoteVets, a progressive political action committee of actual veterans, calling the congresswoman a traitor:

Others also weighed in, reminding Boebert that her words and actions suggest she’s doing everything but trying to protect or defend the United States:
