Speaking on Veterans Day in her home state of Colorado, GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert claimed that her service in Congress is much the same as the men and women of the U.S. armed forces who protect the country from all enemies.
Newsweek reports that Boebert made her remarks to a small crowd, telling them:
“As your congresswoman, it is my proper role to keep you free. And that is what I’m fighting for each and every day, just as each of you have fought to keep us free in the greatest nation that this world has ever known.”

Wait a minute. Isn’t this the same Lauren Boebert who has repeatedly made excuses for the thousands of pro-Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, resulting in in the deaths of five people, including a police officer? For her to even speak her name in the same breath as the Americans who volunteer to remain vigilant in the face of the many threats around the world is both disgusting and hypocritical.
It didn’t take long before reaction to Boebert’s absurd comments began, with VoteVets, a progressive political action committee of actual veterans, calling the congresswoman a traitor:
Oh no. No no no no no. @laurenboebert, you never fought for this country in any way, shape, or form. You’re a traitor. How dare you say this? https://t.co/FYFj0yl6l4

Others also weighed in, reminding Boebert that her words and actions suggest she’s doing everything but trying to protect or defend the United States:
What freedom is she fighting for? The GQP is trying to ban books they don’t like. They are trying to take away access to safe medical abortions. They are trying to cancel Big Bird. What part of any of that is about “freedom”? Does she mean “freedumb”?

If Twitter trolling is “fighting” then I’m a goddamn admiral. 🤦🏻♂️

Wondering if the veterans she’s speaking to know that she voted NO to giving medals to U.S. Capitol police who fought to protect the Capitol, members of Congress, their staff and most importantly… our Democracy against the attempted coup + insurrection on Jan. 6th?
