Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka is 40-years-old, yet he attacked the House January 6th Committee for requesting testimony from her, accusing the committee of targeting “children.”
Ivanka Trump reportedly asked her father to put an end to the violence at the Capitol multiple times to no avail. It was previously revealed that Trump watched the insurrection unfold for three hours until he finally allowed the National Guard to clear the building and grounds.
As a former White House advisor to her father who was there that day, Ivanka is a prime witness to Donald Trump’s behavior that day. That’s why the committee is requesting testimony from her.
But Trump reacted to the request by accusing the committee of targeting “children,” presumably a reference to the protocol that the children of lawmakers and other government officials are off-limits.
“It’s a very unfair situation for my children. Very, very unfair,” Trump complained to conservative rag Washington Examiner.
Trump’s other adult children, Eric and Don Jr., are also under scrutiny.
“It’s a disgrace, what’s going on,” Trump continued. “They’re using these things to try and get people’s minds off how incompetently our country is being run. And they don’t care. They’ll go after children. They are using whatever powers they have. They couldn’t care less. They are vicious people.”
Again, we’re not talking about minors here. Ivanka, Eric, and Don Jr. are all adults, although that term should be used loosely when describing Trump and his immediate family members.
Trump didn’t seem to care about “children” being targeted when he and several GOP members of Congress and the conservative media all frequently attacked President Joe Biden’s son Hunter. And let’s not forget the very real attacks against former President Bill Clinton’s daughter Chelsea when she was still underage. Even former President Barack Obama’s two daughters were frequently targeted by Republicans.
Now that his own children are close to being netted in his crimes, Trump is crying foul and hoping to shield them with a protocol that he and Republicans have ignored for years. Unlike Hunter Biden, Trump’s adult kids may have actually committed crimes and could be prime witnesses to his own, and Ivanka worked in the White House. They aren’t little kids. They are adults who can and should be held accountable for their actions. If Trump is lucky, according to some, they’ll be sent to the same prison he ends up occupying.
