Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has been embarrassing himself since the first day he walked into Congress, but he really fell on his face this time by asking the Biden administration to give up on Ukraine becoming a member of NATO.

Hawley previously faceplanted by helping to incite the Capitol insurrection on January 6th, which resulted in ethics complaints and calls for him to resign in disgrace or be expelled from the Senate. This week, Hawley proved his disloyalty to the United States and freedom once again by sending a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken regarding Ukraine’s potential membership in NATO, which Russia opposes so much that they are threatening to invade the country.

“Some argue that now is not the right time to ask hard questions about Ukraine’s prospective membership in NATO,” Hawley wrote. “But I submit that now is exactly the right time for confronting hard truths.”

Hawley suggested that NATO abandon Ukraine to Russia even though Ukraine wants to be a member of NATO and enjoy the security and economic benefits of such an alliance.

That goes completely against America’s determination and promise to support independent democratic nations and protect them from authoritarianism.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) took Hawley to task on Twitter.

He would follow up with another post hours later mentioning Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s apparent allegiance to Russia.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki also chimed in with criticism of Hawley.

“If you are just digesting Russian misinformation and parroting Russian talking points, you are not aligned with long-standing bipartisan American values, which is to stand up for the sovereignty of countries like Ukraine but others, their right to choose their own alliances and also to stand against very clearly the efforts or attempts or potential attempts by any country to invade and take territory of another country,“ she said. “That applies to Senator Hawley, but it also applies to others who may be parroting the talking points of Russian propagandist leaders.”

Hawley responded with a ridiculous and tired Republican accusation that Democrats are somehow “soft” on Russia even though Hawley— a Republican— is literally advocating for giving Russia exactly what it wants.

Sorry, but Hawley does not get to call Democrats soft on Russia when his party led by Donald Trump frequently capitulated to Russia and Vladimir Putin every chance they got during Trump’s disgraceful presidency.

Nord Stream 2 is a natural gas pipeline between Russia and Germany, but while the pipeline is complete it was suspended in November over security concerns in Ukraine and Poland because Russia could potentially use the pipeline as a war tactic. Biden and the Democrats did not “give” the pipeline to Russia. In fact, Republicans had a shot to deal with this concern during Trump’s presidency but failed to do anything about it except issue empty threats.

Furthermore, Biden only temporarily halted a military aid package to Ukraine to deescalate tensions with Russia in the lead-up to his summit with Putin. In fact, Biden is set to double the aid package to Ukraine this year.

As for Afghanistan, Biden is not the one who signed the withdrawal order and he’s not the one who set the quick timeline to withdraw. He also did not hand the country over to the Taliban. That was Donald Trump.

Seriously, Hawley needs to pull his head out of his a** and resign in disgrace so Missouri can have a competent senator in Congress again.
