Donald Trump released yet another temper tantrum on Twitter Monday despite being banned from the platform over a year ago, once again blaming the Capitol insurrection on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
Republicans have tried every trick in the book in a desperate bid to escape being held accountable for the January 6th insurrection in which Trump supporters violently stormed the Capitol in a scheme to overthrow democracy and assassinate lawmakers along the way.
The violent coup attempt occurred in the wake of Trump himself urging his followers to go to the Capitol and try to stop the counting of the electoral votes, a count that President Joe Biden legitimately won.
House Republicans first tried to blame Pelosi for the insurrection after she blocked two of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) choices to serve on the House Select Committee probing the events of January 6th.
And now Trump is trying the same tactic as the committee closes in on him and his inner circle.
“There would have been no January 6, as we know it, if Nancy Pelosi heeded my recommendation to bring 10,000 Soldiers, or the National Guard, into the Capitol. End the Unselect Committee January 6th Witch Hunt right now,” Trump said.

Of course, Trump is lying. He never made such a recommendation, nor did Pelosi have the power to heed it. The House Speaker is third in line to the presidency but does not have the power to deploy National Guard troops. Pelosi also doesn’t control the Capitol Police. In fact, Trump watched the insurrection unfold for three hours before finally letting the National Guard clear the Capitol.
Trump is the one who incited the insurrection, and he’s the one who refused to send help because he was hoping his coup attempt would succeed. But it failed, and now he is desperately trying to escape being held accountable for it.
