Even though she’s not a Catholic and her knowledge of the church could probably fit into a thimble, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is now proclaiming that the Catholic faith is actually ruled by Satan.

Kathryn Joyce of Salon notes that Greene made her comments during an hourlong interview with far-right Catholic news organization Church Militant, which has for years attacked its own faith for not being sufficiently conservative:

In the interview, Greene rehashed old beefs, described herself as a victim of Jan. 6, said the United States is so sinful she doesn’t understand “why God hasn’t destroyed us” and — most exciting for Church Militant — suggested that Satan is controlling the Catholic Church.

Did Church Militant tell Greene to lay off the devil talk? Far from it. They’ve even begun advocating that she should be Pope.

Oh, and this is also the same Church Militant that said in 2020 if Joe Biden was elected, his presidency would end with Catholics “herded onto the trains headed for the camps.” That seems odd when you consider that Biden himself is a Catholic.

As you’d expect, in the interview she gave, Greene also attacked Biden, suggesting that any talk of canceling student loan debt is “Satanic.”

“When people think they don’t have to be responsible with their money and they can just borrow as much as they want and not have to care about giving it back, that is Satan destroying rules.”

Who even knew that Satan had a bank account, let alone the ability to borrow millions of dollars? Sounds like he’s definitely living large in hell, the GOP House caucus, or wherever he’s located these days.

Whither the Catholic Church, which has long made it clear that it’s opposed to the Evil One and even makes that quite clear in its encyclicals and sermons? Well, they’re just hiding who they really are, according to Margie:

“What it is, is Satan’s controlling the church,” Greene responded. Catholics and other Christians who cite biblical mandates to “love one another” by taking care of migrants, she continued, are “perverting” both the meaning of the Bible and the Constitution.

Eager to prove her own credentials as a good “Christian,” Congresswoman Greene suggested that the United States should cut off all aid to Central American countries until they agree to take back everyone who has immigrated to the U.S.. But she says it so much better:

“We should hold those countries accountable. ‘Oh, I’m sorry, Guatemala, you’re not getting a check this year because you’ve sent X number of thousands and tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands and millions of people to illegally invade our country as if they’re an army,'” she said. “‘We won’t be able to send you your foreign aid until you bring your people back.”

Clearly, if Marjorie Taylor Greene wants to find Old Scratch anywhere, she doesn’t have to look any further than the nearest mirror.
