Former Senator David Perdue (R-Ga.), Donald Trump’s pick to be the GOP nominee for Georgia governor, lashed out at Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams over the weekend with racist remarks.

Abrams has a good chance to win the Georgia governor’s race this year seeing as how she has an impressive grassroots campaign and a lot of experience getting people out to vote. Her strategy helped President Joe Biden win the state in 2020 and helped Democrats flip both US Senate seats as well.

Perdue, meanwhile, is struggling to even beat Governor Brian Kemp in the GOP primary. So, he’s pandering to the racists like other Republicans have been doing.

During a campaign stop on Monday, Perdue accused Abrams of “demeaning her own race” and told her to “go back where she came from,” a common racist attack against Black people and other people of color.

“Did y’all see what Stacey said this weekend?” Perdue began. “She said that Georgia is the worst place in the country to live. Hey, she ain’t from here. Let her go back where she came from if she doesn’t like it here.”

It should be pointed out that Abrams has spent most of her life in Georgia. She is a Georgian.

“The only thing she wants is to be president of the United States,” Perdue continued. “When she told Black farmers, you don’t need to be on the farm. And she told Black workers in hospitality and all this, you don’t need to be — she is demeaning her own race when it comes to that. I am really over this. She should never be considered material for governor of any state, much less our state, where she hates to live.”

Again, Abrams is a Georgia resident and even served in the Georgia General Assembly. Her goal is to create higher-paying jobs beyond agriculture and hospitality so Georgians have more options for work.

In response, Abrams touted her policies and noted that Republicans don’t have any policies that actually help the people of Georgia. Instead, Republicans are resorting to racist attacks that go back decades.

All Republicans have now is racism and hate to run on in elections. They don’t have accomplishments and they don’t have policies. Their entire platform is about dividing the American people and demonizing people of color to pander to their ever-shrinking base of racist voters. It’s time for a change in Georgia, and Stacey Abrams is that change the state desperately needs.
