If you thought you’d heard every cockamamie reason a Republican politician could possibly give for why Americans need to be able to purchase and use AR-15 assault rifles despite the fact that they are the weapon of choice for mass shooters in the United States, Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) went whole hog when it came to absurdity in defense of such guns.
HuffPost reports that Cassidy made his remarks during an interview with Vice News:
Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), in an interview with Vice News chief political correspondent Elizabeth Landers, weighed in on why he thinks people in his home state might want to grip up with assault-style rifles like the ones used in mass killings in Uvalde, Texas, and Buffalo, New York, among others.
Owners, Cassidy said, would tell you “killing feral pigs” makes AR-15 ownership worthwhile.
“I use it to kill feral pigs, the action of a criminal deprives me of my right,” Cassidy said, imagining a gun owner’s response.

Feral pigs? Really? Clearly, Sen. Cassidy needs to be made aware of a quote that applies to him in spades: “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.”
Twitter users also had some advice for the Louisiana Republican.
@SenatorCassidy – you don’t think we could come up with a law that allows for a special permit for people whose land is overrun with feral pigs?? WHY NOT WORK WITH THE DEMOCRATS TO WRITE A BILL THAT DOES. Seriously. Do it.

But doesn’t killing a feral pig with an AR15 make a horrible mess? Is that the point? To massacre an animal without wanting to eat it, skin it, or do anything with a mangled, torn apart animal blown to bits? Is that why we are all in danger -cuz some dude wants to blow up pigs?

My shotgun has always worked well for me. Nobody needs an AR-15. If they really need to shoot one, I suggest they join the military.

How big is the feral pig problem? As of 2019, six people have died from a feral pig attack. And the USDA says they cause $1.5 billion in damage annually. But according to this guy, killing feral pigs with AR15s is more important than preventing the murders of school kids.
