The House January 6th Committee put House Republicans on the defensive this week by releasing video footage of Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) that appears to show the lawmaker conducting a reconnaissance tour of the Capitol the day before the insurrection.

Republicans have repeatedly denied that any of their members led tours of the Capitol leading up to the insurrection on January 6, 2021 when hundreds of Trump supporters violently stormed the building and seemed to know exactly where to go to get to certain areas, including the Senate and House floors and Democratic offices.

On Wednesday during yet another bombshell public hearing, the committee released video footage of Loudermilk conducting a tour of the Capitol the day prior to the attempted coup to overthrow our democracy. Among those on the tour was a man who ended up being part of the attack on the Capitol. Footage shows him taking pictures of stairwells and tunnels as if preparing directions for himself and fellow insurrectionists.

“Surveillance footage shows a tour of approximately ten individuals led by you to areas in the Rayburn, Longworth, and Cannon House Office Buildings, as well as the entrances to tunnels leading to the U.S. Capitol,” Rep. Bennie Thomas (D-Miss.) said in a letter to Loudermilk requesting testimony. “Individuals on the tour photographed and recorded areas of the complex not typically of interest to tourists, including hallways, staircases, and security checkpoints.”

Indeed, the new evidence comes after Loudermilk himself flatly denied conducting a tour of any kind. The new footage from January 5th directly contradicts him.

Of course, other House Republicans complained in Loudermilk’s defense on Twitter, including Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Louie Gohmert (R-Texas). Greene, who has defamed several Democrats and other individuals since taking office, suggested Loudermilk file a defamation lawsuit against the committee. Gohmert downplayed the footage by claiming that the tunnels and stairwells are historic and worth taking pictures of. It wasn’t too long ago that Gohmert complained that Republicans can’t lie to Congress and get away with it.

It should also be pointed out that Greene has called for assassinating House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and several other Democrats.

Many Republicans are seemingly complicit with the January 6th insurrection, and it’s only a matter of time before the committee starts naming names. Several Republicans begged Trump for pardons after January 6th because they know full well that they committed sedition and treason against our country. They are and continue to be a threat, and they must be held accountable according to a growing number of Americans.
