In response to a 10-year-old girl having to seek abortion care in Indiana after becoming pregnant through rape, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) accused her of being a liar on Twitter, only to delete the tweet days later after the rapist was arrested by law enforcement.
The little girl was a victim of rape and the pregnancy was discovered just prior to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade. Her case made national headlines because Ohio Republicans banned abortion in the state and would have forced her to carry the unwanted pregnancy to full term and give birth if they had their way. But her parents took her to Indiana for the procedure. Of course, Indiana Republicans are seeking to punish the doctor who performed it.
This is an example of how depraved Republicans have become in their obsession to oppress women and girls across the country. They would reward rapists with progeny and sentence their victims to a lifetime of harassment, abuse, and legal battles.
After the case made headlines, President Joe Biden cited it in remarks made the day he signed an executive order protecting abortion access. The 10-year-old rape victim’s case is an example of a pregnancy that is life-threatening, and therefore medically necessary.
But Republicans immediately sought to cast doubt on the case, with Jordan and others calling the girl a liar and trying to discredit her, even going so far as to claim she was not raped at all.
“Another lie. Anyone surprised?” Jordan wrote on Twitter.
And then just this week, law enforcement arrested the girl’s rapist, who confessed to raping her. That instantly put Jordan and other Republicans to shame, and they have sought to scrub their horrendous attacks ever since. Jordan, who has a history of covering up sexual assaults, deleted his tweet, but that didn’t stop Americans from burying him, especially after he posted news of the arrest without an apology to the girl and her family.

Jim Jordan needs to resign in disgrace and abortion should be codified so it’s available in every state. No rape victim should have to carry their rapist’s baby. But that’s exactly what Republicans want.
