Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) continued throwing a temper tantrum over the FBI executing a search warrant at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago this week by declaring that anyone who outs Trump for committing crimes is a “traitor.”
The FBI executed the search warrant earlier this week in an effort to find classified documents that Trump illegally took with him upon leaving the White House in January 2021.
Trump’s own lawyer concedes that the FBI did leave the property with materials they found. Despite Republican protests and accusations of political motivations, the warrant was signed off on by a federal judge and approved at the highest levels of the Justice Department based on evidence and probable cause.
As it turns out, the FBI received tips from an insider on where they could find the classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. Keeping the documents not only violates the Presidential Records Act but could be a violation of other more serious laws if Trump sold or intended to sell the information. In fact, he signed a bill into law during his presidency that makes what he did a felony punishable with years of prison time.
Fresh off of calling for the FBI to be defunded, Greene attacked the informant for outing Trump’s crime and insisted that any evidence against Trump must be planted as part of a nefarious plot to prevent him from running for president in 2024.
“We now know that there was an FBI informant at Mar-a-Lago, who is that and how many other FBI informants are around President Trump on a daily basis, working at his clubs, working at Mar-a-Lago, or maybe Bedminster, or on his staff?” Greene said according to a Newsweek report.
“These are the things I want to know, because they’re traitors, they are traitors and they’re helping the deep state,” she continued in her rant. “These are the enemies within, these are the real enemies, and they are there to purposely create something against President Trump that is not there.”
Again, the FBI and Justice Department had a warrant for the search and it appears to have produced fruit. The DOJ subpoenaed Trump for the documents months ago. Trump clearly did not comply with the subpoena and kept classified materials hidden away at his residence.
The paranoid insurrectionist Greene concluded her rant.
“That is why it’s the most dangerous time for President Trump and his family and anyone in its orbit, me included, because these people will stop at nothing,” Greene said. “They don’t want a second President Trump term,” Greene said. “Here’s why; because he is dead serious, and he knows who his enemies are and he is going to finish the job he started in his first four years.”
It’s not surprising that Greene would include herself as a “victim” in all this. After all, she sought a pardon from Trump to shield herself from being held accountable for her involvement in the Capitol insurrection and the plot to overturn the 2020 Election. Trump becoming president again is her ticket to getting away with her own crimes.
In the end, that’s why many Republicans are defending Trump. They don’t care if he committed crimes. He’s their only hope of escaping prosecution for their own treasonous behavior.
