The White House fought back against Republican criticism of President Joe Biden’s student loan debt forgiveness announcement on Thursday by publicly dragging them for being hypocrites since they received PPP loans that were forgiven.

Republicans have been raging against student loan cancellation ever since Biden made the announcement earlier this week. The plan will cancel up to $20,000 of debt for Americans who make less than $125,000 a year. It’s a big win for Americans, education, and the economy.

But, again, Republicans have only been complaining about the move. In fact, several House Republicans have posted criticism on social media or have voiced it during media appearances. Among these GOP lawmakers include Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Mike Kelly (R-Pa.), Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.), Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.), and Kevin Hern (R-Okla.).

The problem is that each of these House Republicans took out massive PPP loans that go beyond the average student loan debt and their loans were forgiven by the government, including any interest that had accrued. And so, that’s why the White House called each of these Republicans out by name in public on Twitter, including the amount of PPP loan money they received and did not have to pay back.

These Republicans are far from the only ones who got PPP loans that were forgiven. And every single one of them is a hypocrite for opposing student loan forgiveness, not just because they had their PPP loans forgiven without paying back a single cent, but also because they claim to be “Christians” whose own Bible holds up debt forgiveness as a noble practice.

The administration was right to fight back against Republican hypocrisy and the American people had a front-row seat.
