As Donald Trump incited his supporters to violently storm the Capitol during a speech on January 6th, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was prepared to punch Trump in the face if he dared to show up with them.

Pelosi often put Trump in his place during his presidency, including when she refused to let him deliver a State of the Union speech at the House in 2019 during a government shutdown. And who can forget the White House meetings in which she treated him like the petulant child he is? Pelosi even famously ripped Trump’s 2020 State of the Union speech in half.

Things apparently came to a head on January 6th as Trump spoke to his supporters telling them to march to the Capitol in a desperate scheme to remain in power. It turns out that Pelosi had been watching the remarks on television. In remarkable behind-the-scenes footage released by the House January 6th Committee, Pelosi says she will “punch out” Trump if he trespasses on the Capitol.

“If he comes, I’m gonna punch him out,” Pelosi said. “I’ve been waiting for this, for trespassing on the Capitol grounds. I’m gonna punch him out, and I’m gonna go to jail and I’m gonna be happy.”

Here’s the video via Twitter:

Trump had actually intended to go to the Capitol that day to further spur his supporters on as the attempted coup unfolded, but his security detail refused to take him there despite his violent protests.

While Trump watched and did nothing from the White House, Pelosi spent hours that day in the midst of the chaos seeking help from law enforcement and the National Guard contrary to claims by Trump and several Republicans blaming her for the insurrection.

Eventually, the Capitol was restored to order and both chambers certified the 2020 Election results, but America may forever regret that Pelosi did not get the opportunity to knock Trump out.
