Fox News’s Peter Doocy was once again set straight after trying to force an inaccurate narrative into the public discourse. Doocy did so at a White House press briefing on Monday. At issue was the White House lifting a handful of sanctions over some humanitarian concerns the administration had.

Doocy began trying to feed his alternate narrative, one echoed by Fox’s hosts, that President Biden was trying to have all its drilling done in Venezuela for some confusing reasons. (we still haven’t totally figured out what his point was other than to try to badmouth the President).

The exchange went like this …

“Why is it President Biden would rather let U.S. companies drill for oil in Venezuela than here in the U.S.?” Doocy asked.

“That’s not an accurate take,” NSC spokesperson John Kirby replied diplomatically.

“Earlier this month, he said no more drilling!” Doocy exclaimed.

“The president has issued 9,000 permits for drilling on U.S. federal lands,” John Kirby pointed out. “9,000 being unused. There are plenty of opportunities for oil and gas companies to drill here in the United States.”

“Our expectation is that there won’t be a whole lot of oil coming out of there and it will have to be shipped to the United States,” Kirby added.

“Does the president think there is some benefit to the climate to drill oil in Venezuela and not here?” Doocy pressed.

“It has nothing to do with a benefit to the climate,” Kirby said of the sanctions relief. “Again, there are 9,000 unused permits here in the United States on federal land that oil and gas companies can and should take advantage of. 9,000! And we’re talking about one there in Venezuela.”

Doocy was trying to act as if one permit in Venezuela being used by an oil company immediately negated 9,000 permits in the US. Permits that the oil and gas companies are literally sitting on and doing nothing with. Permits, that if used, would actually help Americans in the long run and lower gas prices. Doocy wants to ignore all those facts and like the rest of Fox News, prefers to simply make up a new narrative that pretends that oil companies are saintly and all the woes caused by high gas prices are President Biden’s fault alone. Of course, none of that is even close to being true according to many experts. And John Kirby wasn’t going to let Doocy get away with his shenanigans on his watch.
