Over a dozen high dollar Republican donors who gave money to President Donald Trump’s inaugural committee in 2017 have bailed on him ahead of the 2020 Election and are donating their money to Democratic candidates instead.

While many Republicans saw the danger a Trump presidency could bring, other Republicans ignored their warnings and donated to Trump anyway. Four years later, however, it appears several of those same Republican donors have learned their lesson after witnessing the damage Trump has caused, and have decided to abandon him, choosing to give their money to Democrats.

According to the report by the Daily Beast:

“15 such donors who collectively gave more than $700,000 to Trump’s inaugural committee but who have since contributed to the presidential campaigns of Democratic candidates including Pete Buttigieg, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Tulsi Gabbard, Amy Klobuchar, Michael Bennet, John Hickenlooper, Eric Swalwell, and John Delaney.”

One of those donors, former U.S. Army Lt. Colonel and transgender billionaire Jennifer Pritzker, massively donated to Trump’s inaugural committee, but is now throwing her support and money to South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

“It had only been a couple years since [Jennifer] Pritzker, the world’s only known trans billionaire and a Republican mega-donor, had chipped in a whopping $250,000 to President Donald Trump’s inaugural committee,” the report said. “But three months after publicly objecting to the GOP’s stance on trans issues, she gave $1,000 to Democrat Pete Buttigieg’s presidential campaign.”

Hopefully, that’s not the only problem she has with the Republican Party. After all, Trump’s policies include everything from denying climate change in the face of global disasters, putting kids in cages, abusing his power and obstructing justice as charged by two articles of impeachment and nearly starting World War III by escalating hostilities against Iran and threatening to commit war crimes. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Another donor, a media company CEO named Greg Maffei, also gave Trump’s inaugural committee $250,000. But he is now donating money to Democratic presidential candidates hailing from Colorado and could donate to other Democratic candidates once Senator Michael Bennett (D-Co.) drops out of the race.

Virginia electrical contractor William Dean donated to a Democratic candidate for the first time this year after having donated $100,000 to Trump’s inaugural committee. And longtime Republican donor Chrysa Tsakopoulos Demos has not donated to Republicans at all, but has donated to former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign.

This all suggests that Republicans are not only losing support from voters because of Trump, but they are also losing support and money from Republican donors. It’s an exodus that could get worse, especially if Senate Republicans insist on rigging the upcoming impeachment trial in Trump’s favor.

Despite these losses, Republicans appear to only be doubling down on their loyalty to Trump. And that will likely backfire as more voters and donors choose to jump from the sinking ship, leaving those who foolishly remain to drown in their own stupidity.
