Minutes after the full Senate voted to acquit President Donald Trump on charges of abusing his office and obstructing Congress, two GOP senators made it clear they fully intend to do Trump’s dirty work for him, opening a new investigation into Hunter Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden.

Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Ron Johnson (R-WI) — chairmen of the the chairmen of the Senate Finance and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committees — sent a letter to Secret Service Director James Murray, requesting travel records for Hunter Biden as part of into “potential conflicts of interest posed by the business activities of Hunter Biden and his associates during the Obama administration,” according to The Hill:

As part of their request, the senators specifically want to know what sort of security detail Hunter Biden received while his father served as vice president, along with a list of all dates and places Hunter Biden traveled with a protective detail.

The letter specifically references Ukraine and China, two nations Trump urged to investigate the Bidens and wound up leading to his impeachment, making him only the third president in U.S. history to face being removed from office:

“We write to request information about whether Hunter Biden used government-sponsored travel to help conduct private business, to include his work for Rosemont Seneca and related entities in China and Ukraine.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, has also indicated that he will investigate the Bidens and possibly try to expose the whistleblower who first brought Trump’s questionable phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the attention of an inspector general for the U.S. intelligence community.

Ever since the Ukraine scandal broke in September of last year, Republicans in Congress have repeatedly tried to turn the focus from Trump to Biden in a desperate attempt to protect the president. But their efforts have so far led to no evidence of wrongdoing by the Bidens:

“There’s no evidence that Joe Biden was acting with his son’s interests in mind, and the former vice president has denied any wrongdoing. The GOP claims have also been debunked by fact-checkers.”
