President Donald Trump does not care about all the Americans who have died from the coronavirus, and he demonstrated that perfectly on Tuesday morning by bragging about his ratings and whining about the media.

Over 42,000 Americans are dead and more than 800,000 have been infected as the coronavirus continues to ravage communities across the country. Trump’s reckless response to the pandemic is well-documented, as are his attempts to find a scapegoat to blame.

American lives could have been saved had he acted instead of downplaying the virus. Many Americans could yet still be saved if he would get hospitals and states the medical equipment they need and leave lockdowns and social distancing measures in place rather than seek to re-open the country earlier than health experts recommend.

But Trump would rather focus on airing imaginary grievances because the media isn’t letting him get away with spreading his propaganda and lies about the pandemic.

And so, he delusionally opined that he must be doing a really good job if the media coverage of him is so negative.

And then to add insult to injury, Trump bragged about ratings again.

These press briefings are not supposed to be about him. But Trump is using them as defacto campaign rallies to stroke his ego and attack his critics while trying to rewrite the narrative of the pandemic and his response to it. The only important number here is how many Americans have died and how many are infected, numbers that are only rising because of his incompetence.
