National Institutes of Health’s Dr. Anthony Fauci revealed on Wednesday that a drug known as remdesivir shows real promise in the treatment of coronavirus patients based on a new drug trial, but Fox News host Laura Ingraham bashed him because she still supports the use of hydroxychloroquine.

President Donald Trump has largely stopped promoting chloroquine as a treatment for coronavirus after studies revealed that it resulted in dangerous side-effects such as heart issues and did not really benefit patients at all.

As researchers continue to seek a vaccine, however, other drugs are being tested to see if any of them can be used for the time being. And one of those drugs turns out to be remdesivir, which Fauci extensively discussed during a briefing with reporters.

According to CBS News:

Preliminary data analysis from an international COVID-19 drug trial “shows that remdesivir has a clear-cut, significant, positive effect in diminishing the time to recovery,” Fauci told reporters at the White House Wednesday.

This development is “really quite important for a number of reasons,” Fauci said, calling the data “highly significant.” He said that the recovery time was reduced from 15 days to 11 days in the drug trial, which involved over 1,000 hospitalized patients in the U.S., Germany, Denmark, Spain, Greece and other countries, and was, he said,”the first truly high-powered, randomized, placebo-controlled” trial for a coronavirus treatment.

“Although a 31% improvement doesn’t seem like a knockout 100%, it is a very important proof of concept,” Fauci said, adding that “what it is proving is that a drug can block this virus.”

These results are promising and based on actual trials, and remdesivir is not dangerous like chloroquine.

But Ingraham is apparently invested in chloroquine, or at least hell-bent on making everyone believe Trump was right about the anti-malarial drug, because she launched an attack on Fauci suggesting that he’s in league with the company that produces remdesivir and continued promoting chloroquine despite the danger it poses.

Here’s the video of her rant via Twitter:

Fauci is a trusted public health official and has been for years. Ingraham doesn’t even have a medical degree. Trump has pretty much moved on from the chloroquine hype, so should she. We need drugs that treat the virus without risking patients’ lives. Remdesivir offers hope. To ignore it is irresponsible.
