Former Republican National Committee (RNC) chairman Michael Steele slammed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) Tuesday for comments McConnell made in which he suggested that former President Barack Obama was “classless” and should have “kept his mouth shut” instead of criticizing President Donald Trump’s tepid response to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Specifically, President Obama said during a private phone call with former members of his administration that Trump’s handing of the pandemic in the United States had been “an absolute chaotic disaster.”

Those comments led McConnell to tell Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara, in an interview:

“I think President Obama should have kept his mouth shut.

“You know, we know he doesn’t like much this administration is doing. That’s understandable, but I think it’s a little bit classless, frankly, to critique an administration that comes after you.

“You had your shot. You were there for eight years. I think the tradition that the Bushes set up of not critiquing the president who comes after you is a good tradition.”

That was all it took for Steele to light up McConnell on Twitter, posting this:

And that led to others joining the debate and also chastising the Senate Majority Leader:
