President Donald Trump continued his assault on the democratic process and United States Postal Service (USPS) Monday morning by claiming that “dogs” are getting absentee ballots and trying to vote in American elections.

During an extensive and surreal phone interview on the Fox News morning show “Fox & Friends,” Trump was asked by host Steve Doocy why he’s being accused of “sabotaging” the post office. The president responded:

“No, I’m just making it good. This has been one of the disasters of the world, the way it’s been run. It’s been run horribly. And we’re going to make it good.”

Trump added that Amazon is the “biggest problem with the post office,” ranting:

“They come and they drop all their mail to a post office — not all of it, but a big percentage of it — and they say, ‘Here, you deliver it, you stupid people. We’re losing a fortune. And I said, you’ve got to raise the rates.”

The president has long held a grudge against Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who is the richest man in the world and also owns the Washington Post, which hasn’t been shy about criticizing Trump.

Trump was also asked about concerns that he might no agree to leave office even if he loses the upcoming election. That that, replied:

“The first thing I think of is crooked Hillary Clinton. The problem is she didn’t accept it, she went crazy. She’s still going crazy. I mean, she’s gone nuts.”

Actually, Clinton graciously accepted the results in 2016 and conceded the election shortly after the votes had been counted.

But it was what the president said next that suggests he may indeed be losing the tenuous grasp he has on his sanity:

“I go by the election. Now with that being said, I have to tell you that if you go with this universal mail-in where you send millions of votes — in California, tens of millions of ballots being sent to everybody and their dogs. Dogs are getting them, OK? People that have been dead for 25 years are getting them.”

Dogs are getting ballots? Really? If that’s so, my dog just told me she wants to know where her ballot is, because it hasn’t yet arrived and she’s determined to vote in November. She told me just minutes ago as we sat and read the morning newspaper. (See how crazy that sounds?!)

The fact is, that is an old falsehood that he is reviving.

The reason Trump is opposed to mail balloting is because he knows he can’t cheat as easily if everyone casts a paper ballot. And that has him terrified he’ll lose and be indicted and arrested seconds after he leaves office.

As for dogs voting, it’s a safe bet they’d cast their ballots against Trump, if only because he steadfastly refuses to even own a pet.
