With his remaining days in office drawing to a close, President Donald Trump is now inquiring of aides exactly how one goes about getting an airport named for himself, according to a report from the Daily Beast:

“One of the two sources relayed that, in the past three weeks, Trump mentioned that ‘no president’ wants an American airport that has a bad reputation or crumbling infrastructure named after them. The other knowledgeable source said that Trump had, at one point since the 2020 election, offhandedly asked what kind of ‘paperwork’ was necessary to get an airport named after a former president.”

Yes, the U.S. economy remains mired in a deep recession, COVID-19 cases are skyrocketing, Russia has hacked several government agencies, and the president of the United States is spending his time scheming to get his name on a damn airport.

However, the fact that Trump is focused on what happens after he leaves office does suggest that knows he won’t be president for much longer, and that alone is a step in the right direction for a man who has flirted with the idea of refusing to depart from the White House after President-Elect Joe Biden is inaugurated on January 20.

The egomaniac-in-chief also has other aspirations for what his name can be affixed to:

“This source also said that they’d once heard President Trump ramble about what kind of Navy aircraft carrier he’d want commissioned and christened as the “USS Donald Trump” in the years following his time in office. (He may never get one of those, either, though.)”

Just last week, it was reported that Trump has also been playing with the idea of going back into television, though it remains unclear if anyone would hire him:

“He’s quietly discussed rebooting his reality TV show The Apprentice. He’s started gaming out some scenarios of how to keep the GOP in line with him over the next four years, should he decide to run again in 2024.”

Here’s a thought: Instead of naming an airport after Trump, let’s put the name Donald J. Trump on the scuzziest restroom at a Greyhound bus terminal in Washington, D.C. That’d let the Donald know exactly how the majority of Americans feel about him.
