Bill Barr is no longer Attorney General but current AG Merrick Garland is apparently ready to pick up the baton and defend disgraced former President Donald Trump, resulting in calls for his resignation.

It was thought that Garland would bring justice back to the Justice Department after Trump abused and corrupted it during his four years in office, including by having the Attorney General act as his own personal lawyer.

Unfortunately, Garland has been aiding Trump. First, he refuses to release a memo Barr wrote to excuse hiding parts of the Mueller report. Then Garland decided to continue defending Trump against a civil lawsuit brought by E. Jean Carroll.

Now Garland is reportedly going to defend Trump against lawsuits filed against him for inciting the Capitol insurrection on January 6th.

This report comes on the heels of the DOJ defending Trump against a lawsuit stemming from the violent clearing of Lafayette Square last summer by police so that Trump could stage a photo-op.

The news that Garland may defend Trump against insurrection lawsuits enraged Americans, many of whom are calling for Garland to resign because he would clearly rather defend Trump instead of prosecuting him for his criminal actions.

Garland is no longer an acceptable Attorney General. Even Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said that Trump could be held accountable upon leaving office.

“President Trump is still liable for everything he did while he was in office as an ordinary citizen. He didn’t get away with anything yet,” he said after Trump’s second impeachment trial ended. “There’s no question—none—that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day. No question about it.”

Trump incited an insurrection to overthrow democracy. The DOJ should be prosecuting him, not defending him. If President Joe Biden and Garland won’t hold Trump accountable they should both step aside for leaders who will.
