According to Fox News host Tucker Carlson, the real reason for the sudden withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan is so that Afghan refugees can “invade” the United States, with “millions” of Afghans on their way to the states.

On his show Monday evening, Carlson let loose with a blatantly racist, xenophobic rant, insisting the refugees are an existential threat to the U.S.:

“If history is any guide, and it’s always a guide, we will see many refugees from Afghanistan resettle in our country in the coming months, probably in your neighborhood. And over the next decade, that number may swell to the millions.

“So first we invade, and then we are invaded. It is always the same.”

Carlson also suggested that both Democrats and Republicans are guilty of wanting to let Afghan refugees immigrate to the United States:

“The people who made the Afghan occupation possible would like to see a lot more of our southern border, much more unrestrained immigration to the U.S. ‘Bring in the refugees!’ they’re screaming,”

As HuffPost notes, Carlson’s fearmongering is absurd:

“Photos show thousands of refugees desperately trying to flee the country. In one video, people clung to the outside of a U.S. military transport plane during takeoff, reportedly leaving at least seven people dead in the chaos.

“The Pentagon has announced it will house up to 22,000 Afghan evacuees in military facilities. The Biden administration had already moved 2,000 Afghans who were eligible for special immigration visas, though the president has been criticized for not evacuating more people sooner.”

So a few thousand Afghans will be seeking safety in the United States. Considering that we contributed to the instability and partial destruction of their country, it seems the least we can do is bring those who were instrumental in assisting with our mission to safety. If Carlson doesn’t like it, he can pack his bags and move to Russia.
