Actor Jim Carrey is done with Twitter under the new direction that’s being set by CEO Elon Musk, but the way he announced his decision to drop the platform has left millions scratching their heads.
On Tuesday, Carrey wrote:
“I’m leaving Twitter, but 1st here’s a cartoon I made with my friend Jimmy Hayward. It’s based on my painting of a crazy old Lighthouse Keeper, standing naked in a storm, summoning the angels and shining his lamp to guide us through a treacherous night. I love you all so much!”
I’m leaving Twitter, but 1st here’s a cartoon I made with my friend Jimmy Hayward. Earlier this month, Carrey sent out a tweet in which he dubbed Musk “Captain Smirk.”
Capt Smirk fired 1/2 his crew. He’s banning comics: shadow banning unverified users, boldly going where no unbridled ego has gone before. Says, “$8/mo is the price of a latte.” True. It’s also cheaper than a T-shirt saying “Rob me. I’m a gullible ass!” BTW Mars mission? FAKE NEWS pic.twitter.com/qWrwD4vSis

But it’s the lighthouse keeper cartoon that set social media abuzz with questions about what it all meant. Mostly, however, people said they were sad to see Carrey leaving.
I shall miss you & your amazing artwork that made me laugh & kept my sanity intact!🥹
