As the House of Representatives was voting to formally endorse the impeachment of President Donald Trump, his daughter, Ivanka (who also works as a White House adviser) decided it would be a good idea if she took to Twitter and defended her father by quoting Thomas Jefferson:
“…surrounded by enemies and spies catching and perverting every word that falls from my lips or flows from my pen, and inventing where facts fail them.” -Thomas Jefferson’s reflections on Washington, D.C. in a letter to his daughter Martha.
Some things never change, dad!

What exactly do Donald Trump and Thomas Jefferson have in common? Absolutely nothing! Think about it:
- Jefferson was a man of deep thought and intelligence. Trump is as simple-minded as they come.
- Jefferson was a statesman and diplomat. Trump is a boor.
- Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. Trump can hardly tweet without making a complete fool of himself.
That was all it took for Twitter to light up with scorn, mockery, and laughter in response:

Like Trump, Thomas Jefferson also had a child he refused to acknowledge https://t.co/kCfhTGyLf1

#IvankaTrump is an unqualified advisor to her father working in the White House on US foreign policy, traveling the world on tax payers dime. She is welcome to return to New York and her, flammable clothing and knock off shoes made in China sweatshops, company. 🙄 #ImpeachTrump

Comparing daddy to Thomas Jefferson?
Wrong Jefferson, dear.
He’s nowhere near as funny or cool as George Jefferson.
He’s more like Jefferson Davis.

Thomas Jefferson also said this:
“When once a Republic is corrupted, there is no possibility of remedying any of the growing evils but by removing the corruption and restoring its lost principles; every other correction is either useless or a new evil.”
That’s about your dad. https://t.co/oEQnd0Eo63

“When the speech condemns a free press, you are hearing the words of a tyrant.” — Thomas Jefferson
Your father is a tyrant, @IvankaTrump.
