You remember Jim Bakker, don’t you? He’s the infamous televangelist who ran the PTL Club with his late wife, Tammy Faye, and was convicted in 1989 on eight counts of mail fraud, 15 counts of wire fraud, and one count of conspiracy. Bakker was sentenced to 45 years in federal prison, which was later reduced to eight years on appeal.

Bakker is back on television, preaching his apocalyptic vision of the world while trying to sell dehydrated food for the end time he warns are right around the corner.

Considering Bakker’s history of shameless grifting, it probably won’t surprise you to learn that he’s a staunch, unabashed supporter of President Donald Trump, and he says that the world is going to devolve into absolute chaos if Trump is impeached, telling viewers this week on his show, Right Wing Watch reports:

“This has got to be unconstitutional. I want the government to see this. These are voters. Everyone in this room—it’s 100 percent—say it’s unconstitutional to do what they’re doing.

“There is going to be an explosion if you don’t stop it. People are not going to tolerate it anymore … I wouldn’t even be surprised if you don’t see quiet old ladies, like some of you sitting here, marching in the streets because America is not even going to be worth living in in another year or two, the way we’re going if we’re not careful. We can’t let people take over who hate God.”

Really, Jim? Little old ladies marching in the streets to defend a man who routinely attacks children (Greta Thunberg), people of color (Maxine Waters, Barack Obama), and jokes about grabbing women “by the p*ssy”? Sounds like just another line of BS that probably came from the White House and was emailed to Bakker shortly before he went on air.

Even if Trump were removed from office, the American republic would continue without interruption, just like it did when Richard Nixon was forced to resign in 1974. And if Trump loses in 2020 (which is entirely possible), the country won’t miss a beat.

Maybe it’s time for Jim Bakker and his ilk to make a pilgrimage to the nearest desert and wait for Armageddon.
