According to President Donald Trump, all Americans should vote for him in November because he’s the person who “saved” health care for the nation and made sure that coverage for those with pre-existing conditions was a guaranteed right, even though that provision was already enshrined into the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare.
On Twitter, Trump responded to ads being run by Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg which criticize Trump for his attempts to overturn the ACA in court and by repealing the individual mandate:
Mini Mike Bloomberg is spending a lot of money on False Advertising. I was the person who saved Pre-Existing Conditions in your Healthcare, you have it now, while at the same time winning the fight to rid you of the expensive, unfair and very unpopular Individual Mandate…..
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 13, 2020
….and, if Republicans win in court and take back the House of Represenatives, your healthcare, that I have now brought to the best place in many years, will become the best ever, by far. I will always protect your Pre-Existing Conditions, the Dems will not!

Of course, the facts suggest otherwise, as NPR reported in October, highlighting five direct attacks on Obamacare:
- Eliminating the individual mandate
- Work requirements for those on Medicaid
- Ending cost-sharing subsidies to insurers
- Access to short-term “skinny” plans was expanded
- Funds to facilitate sign-ups via the HealthCare.gov website were slashed
Reaction to Trump’s ridiculous claims regarding how he had “saved” health care coverage for millions was met with scorn:
Protection for those with pre-existing conditions was already in place under Obamacare.
Still, at least you admit it’s far better than anything Republicans can muster up.

Trump is pursuing a lawsuit RIGHT NOW to declare protections for people with pre-exisiting conditions unconstitutional.

Trump is lying – that’s nothing new but this has to do with you and your families health. Trump’s admin is in federal court arguing to END you and your families coverage for pre-existing medical conditions and all other benefits of ACA https://t.co/vYcEG73GvV

If the Republicans win in court there will be no more ACA, along with blasting 21 million Americans off HC, it will eliminate Preexisting conditions. You are flat out lying.

You’re lying. If you and Republicans “win in court,” all of the guaranteed issue protections are gone. You’re asking the court to declare the ACA’s protections for pre-existing conditions unconstitutional.

Donald Trump doesn’t care if anyone has health insurance. And yet, our tax dollars go to subsidize his health care and that of every member of Congress. Sounds like someone is worried he’s going to lose badly come November.
