The House Representatives formally delivered the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the United States Senate on Thursday, and as the senators prepared to take the oath of impartiality, former RNC chairman Michael Steele slammed them for already violating it.

Chief Justice John Roberts swore them in, with each one taking the same oath as required by the Constitution.

I solemnly swear that in all things appertaining to the trial of the impeaching of President Donald John Trump, now pending, I will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws. So help me God.

Impartial justice means the senators swear that they won’t be biased during the trial, that it will be a fair trial.

Unfortunately, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and, likely, several others have already made it clear that they are in the tank for Trump and will vote to acquit no matter what despite the strong evidence and witness testimony. They want to rush the trial to acquittal so they can claim that Trump has been exonerated as soon as possible, especially since it’s an election year.

But an obviously rigged acquittal would not exonerate Trump at all. It would enrage the American people and give them even more reason to vote against him and anyone with an (R) after their name on the ballot in November.

Just prior to senators taking the oath, former RNC chairman Michael Steele strongly warned Republicans that they would be lying to the American people if they take the oath.

“Take your behind out of the chamber when it is time to swear in, because you will be lying to the American people,” Steele said. “You already told us you plan not to be an honest juror. So, this is almost a joke in the sense that you have some of these senators walking into this room, standing in front of the country, standing in front of the chief justice of the United States, raising their damn hand to swear an oath that they know they’re not going to defend nor uphold.”

Indeed, a watchdog group recently filed an ethics complaint against McConnell for violating the oath before he even took it.

Michael Steele is right, Republicans are lying to the American people by taking an oath they have no intention of honoring. And the whole thing is now on tape for all Americans to see.
