President Donald Trump did not exactly instill confidence that his administration is actually doing enough to handle the coronavirus outbreak on Wednesday when he picked Vice President Mike Pence to be his coronavirus czar. And he committed more hypocrisy in the process.

The Trump administration is bungling the coronavirus response, which looks especially bad since Trump dismantled the Obama administration’s successful model of handling viruses that former President Barack Obama established during the Ebola outbreak in 2014.

To oversee that model, Obama appointed Ronald Klain, who served as chief of staff for former Vice Presidents Joe Biden and Al Gore, to coordinate actions and communications between 12 federal agencies to fight the outbreak.

Trump replaced that model with a 12 member task-force led by incompetent HHS Secretary Alex Azar. The Trump model has been a mess.

And now Trump is only making it worse by picking Pence as his own coronavirus czar.

“Mike will be working with the professionals, the doctors and everybody else that’s working,” Trump said. “The team is brilliant.”

Pence would go on to further explain his new role in remarks of his own.

“My role will be to continue to bring that team together, to bring to the president the best options for action to see to the safety and well being and health of the American people. We’ll also be continuing to reach out to governors, state and local officials,” Pence said. “We will be working with them in renewed ways to make sure they have the resources to be able to respond.”

It should be pointed out that Pence is a terrible choice because he is anti-science and has made decisions in the past that made health crises worse.

For instance, Pence once claimed that smoking doesn’t kill people. In addition, an HIV outbreak happened in Indiana under his watch as Governor because he failed to approve needle exchanges fast enough.

Pence, however, is not only a terrible choice, he’s a hypocritical choice as well because Trump once complained that Obama chose the inexperienced Klain as his Ebola czar.

There really is a tweet for anything Trump says and does, only Klain had the experience necessary to coordinate the work done by federal agencies to combat the Ebola outbreak. And Klain certainly did not tell Obama only things he wanted to hear. He stuck to the facts and gave him all the information needed for him to make a decision.

Pence, by contrast, is a sycophant who will do Trump’s bidding, which means misleading the American people by pretending all is well.
