President Donald Trump hinted last week that disgraced former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn would somehow be exonerated, and now Attorney General Bill Barr has apparently directed the DOJ to drop the case against him.
Flynn pleaded guilty to lying the FBI in court back in 2017 as part of a deal to cooperate with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation after he got caught acting as an unregistered foreign agent in the White House. But he has since used every trick in the book in an effort to wriggle out of being sentenced and serving time in prison, even withdrawing his guilty plea.
Now, with Barr in charge, it looks like the prosecutors on the case have been ordered to drop it.

The news resulted in outrage across the country, especially from legal experts.
How? He already pleaded guilty.

This moment represents the full collapse of an apolitical Justice Department. An astonishing assault on the rule of law and in a functional DOJ it would prompt mass resignation. https://t.co/SBa8Ubl5NN

This is stunning. Barr is doing Trump’s pardoning for him. This.would.not.happen.for.ordinairy.Americans. https://t.co/xq7AKc0K7a

The @TheJusticeDept dropping charges against Michael Flynn is outrageous. Flynn:
-lied to federal law enforcement
-violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act

Totally unjustified and purely partisan. Just goes to show that a president with a sufficiently corrupt and compliant Attorney General needn’t even bother to abuse his pardon power to bail out his loyal henchmen. https://t.co/W7EMrFj4J4

Michael Flynn is a disgrace to the uniform he once wore. And it’s a national disgrace that he’ll evade justice thanks to a corrupt Commander-in-Chief and Attorney General. https://t.co/LgHK5TqBUY

Flynn should be behind bars. He committed crimes and pleaded guilty to those crimes. More than any other action taken by Barr, this demonstrates that the Justice Department is no longer about justice, it’s about protecting Trump and his corrupt cronies. And any self-respecting attorney who still works there should resign in protest.
