President Donald Trump’s response to the coronavirus pandemic has been nothing but disastrous, but Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) thinks he stepped up even though she called former President Barack Obama a failed leader after just two people died of Ebola in 2014.

More than 130,000 Americans have died from the coronavirus since the virus struck our nation in February. In addition, more than 2.5 million are infected and the economy has been reduced to shambles.

Yet, when an Ebola epidemic hit the United States several years ago, Ernst accused Obama of “failed leadership” after only 2 people died amid mass panic from conservatives.

On Sunday, CNN host Dana Bash confronted Ernst about this hypocrisy.

“Cases in your home state of Iowa have steadily risen for the last two weeks,” Bash pointed out. “You criticized President Obama in 2014 for his handling of the Ebola outbreak, saying that he showed — quote — “failed leadership.”

“Only two people in the U.S. died from Ebola,” Bash continued. “Right now, there are almost 130,000 Americans dead from coronavirus. So, if President Obama showed failed leadership then, do you think President Trump is showing failed leadership now?”

Ernst responded by evading the question.

“Well, I think we all have responsibility in stopping the spread,” she began. “And, certainly, I have heard some of the discussions earlier. Wearing a mask is entirely appropriate. Social distancing is entirely appropriate.

“We have seen, I think, one additional death in the last 24 hours here in Iowa,” Ernst conceded. “So, it is something that we absolutely should be paying attention to. And we all should do our part to make sure that we are protecting others as well.”

She then seemed to contradict Trump’s claim that the coronavirus will go away quickly.

“So, this is a virus that is not going to go away soon,” she said. “We want to make sure that we are watching this and doing everything that we can as a federal government, including the research and development of therapeutics and vaccinations, to make sure that we are doing the right thing as a nation.”

But Bash refused to let her slither away from answering her initial question.

“So, given the fact that one person died there, that’s only half the number that died during Ebola, which you have said was failed leadership, is the president right now exhibiting failed leadership?” she asked.

“Well, I — no, I think that the president is stepping forward,” Ernst cowardly and shamelessly replied.

Once again, Ernst demonstrated that she does not have the spine to stand up to or criticize Trump, and that’s why she is struggling in her race to be re-elected. Had Obama been president during this virus, Ernst and other Republicans would have crucified him 130,000 Americans had died from this virus on his watch. Of course, had Obama been in charge, the death toll would be far less than 130,000.
