President Donald Trump spouted an egregious slander against America’s doctors during another one of his superspreader rallies in Michigan on Friday when he claimed that doctors are profiting off of attributing deaths to coronavirus.

Over 235,000 Americans are dead because of the coronavirus pandemic that Trump has allowed to sweep the nation since February, more than one-third the number of Americans who were killed in the Civil War.

But Trump believes the death toll is being faked by doctors for money.

“You know in Germany if you have a bad heart and you’re ready to die, or if you have cancer and you’re going to be dying soon, and you catch COVID, that happens, we mark it down to COVID,” Trump said. “You know, our doctors get more money if somebody dies from COVID, you know that, right? So what they do they say, ‘I’m sorry, but everyone dies of COVID. But in Germany and other places, if you have a heart attack or if you have cancer, you’re terminally ill, and you catch COVID then they say you died of cancer, you died of heart attack. With us, ‘When in doubt, choose COVID.’ Now, they’ll say, it’s terrible what he said. It’s like $2000 more, so you could only get more money. This could only happen to us.”

In fact, other countries do not do what Trump is claiming. If someone has cancer or a heart condition and then gets coronavirus, those underlying issues make coronavirus worse and they have a higher likelihood of dying. If they do, coronavirus is the cause of death and is listed as such. Trump is lying as usual in a blatant attempt to downplay the pandemic and is insulting and demonizing doctors in the process in an effort to make them the bad guys instead of himself. Remember, Trump recklessly and incompetently responded to the virus from the beginning and even admitted that it’s deadlier than the flu and that he had downplayed it all along. Furthermore, doctors do not get paid extra to list a certain cause of death.

Twitter users were unforgiving in their responses to Trump’s betrayal of our frontline healthcare professionals, the very same professionals who treated his coronavirus after he tested positive.

The lesson here is that Trump will literally say or do anything to stay in power, even slander those who have sworn an oath to save our lives.
