Thanks in large part to the complete incompetence of former President Donald Trump and his feckless administration, the United States passed a grim milestone this week: 500,000 Americans dead from COVID-19.

Under President Biden, the U.S. response to COVID has been much stronger, with 1.7 million people being vaccinated for the deadly disease each and every day, which has helped slow the spread of coronavirus and brought the death rate and number of those hospitalized down significantly.

Yet despite how badly Trump bumbled dealing with the virus, Fox News host Greg Gutfeld said Thursday that he believes the former president will be viewed favorably when the history books are written.

According to Media Matters for America, Gutfeld heaped praise on Trump, remarking:

“You have the vaccine and you have the rapid testing happening under Trump, right? And he still loses. But what’s interesting is that his prioritization was flawless. It was about rapid testing and vaccines.

“The imperfect — he saw the imperfect solutions with the masks and the social distancing, and he saw it for what it was, is that’s not what’s going to get us through. However, he had to play the game, and he wouldn’t play the game. He had to pretend that no, this is the number one priority, masks, but he — but he didn’t do it, but now, history is going to be kind to Trump over this.”

Wow! Talk about revisionist history. Gutfeld wants to us to believe that Trump did a “flawless” job when it came to controlling and defeating the virus, but the scientific data suggests otherwise:

  • When COVID was first discovered in the United States, Trump claimed it would soon disappear: “…when you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that’s a pretty good job we’ve done.”
  • Trump refused to wear a mask in public for the longest time and suggested there was no need for mask wearing: “I wore one in this back area, but I didn’t want to give the press the pleasure of seeing it.”
  • The former president suggested that his top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, didn’t know what he was talking about: “People are saying whatever. Just leave us alone. They’re tired of it. People are tired of hearing Fauci and all these idiots.”

History will be kind to Trump? That’s laughable and proves just how out of touch both Gutfeld and Fox News are.
