Republicans have been accusing President Joe Biden of adopting disgraced former President Donald Trump’s inhumane immigration policies, especially when it comes to migrant children, but that’s not the case at all.

Outrage ensued and conservatives proclaimed that Trump has been proven right on immigration after a facility recently reopened in Texas for migrant children. Trump aide Stephen Miller especially lost his sh*t over it, referring to Biden’s immigration policies as “cruel and inhumane” despite himself being the architect of putting kids in cages after ripping them away from their parents for the last four years.

The facts, however, reveal that Biden’s policies are far different, and are geared toward properly caring for these children and reuniting them with loved ones.

Since making reuniting these children with their parents a top priority, the Biden administration has been able to reunite 105 children with their parents, an effort spearheaded by First Lady Dr. Jill Biden that neither Donald nor Melania cared to do themselves.

There is still much work to be done, of course. 506 children are still separated from their parents, many of whom were deported by Trump based on Miller’s idea that cruelty would be the best deterrent to illegal immigration.

And so, until they can be placed in the care of temporary or permanent homes, the Biden administration reopened a facility to shelter them. But this facility is NOT being run by fascist Border Patrol agents who don’t care if the kids live or die. It’s being run by the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which is far more qualified to handle these children and find their parents or place them in a proper home with a proper guardian.

According to the Washington Post:

It’s important to note that the Texas facility is run not by Border Patrol, but by the Office of Refugee Resettlement,” Sargent writes. “Federal laws and legal settlements require Border Patrol to take in children and hold them for no more than 72 hours, then transfer them to ORR, which then tries to place them with relatives or guardians. Thus, the reopening of the Texas facility does not constitute holding children at the border. It constitutes using a warehouse-like facility to deal with overflow at ORR, the waystation before kids hopefully get moved to a better life. This isn’t ‘kids in cages’ redux.

It may not be perfect, but it’s a far better policy than anything Trump and Miller enacted. Kids are being reunited with their parents at long last and they are being subjected to better treatment. This is a win for Democrats and for American values. Now if only Trump and Miller would be tried at The Hague for the crimes against humanity they committed, these kids would finally get justice, too.
