When a Newsmax reporter tried to question Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s paternity leave, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki quickly put her in her place.

The Biden administration fully supports maternity and paternity leave for new parents, which now includes Buttigieg, who recently became a parent of two adopted children with his husband. So, he has taken temporary leave to adjust to parenthood and spend time with his family. But some poll that Newsmax reporter Emerald Robinson brought up during a recent press conference supposedly shows that 65 percent of respondents think Buttigieg should be at work as if gay parents aren’t allowed to take parental leave.

When presented this poll, Psaki noted that Buttigieg is still working, albeit from home, even participating in a conference call.

It should also be pointed out that the Department of Transportation has a deputy secretary named Polly Trottenberg who keeps the department running while Buttigieg is away. So, work is definitely getting done in his absence. The department doesn’t just shut down because the boss goes on leave. That’s just like when the boss at a private business goes on leave or vacation.

Robinson refused to let the topic go, prompting Psaki to shut her down while stating the policy of the administration and what Democrats are fighting for all Americans to have and enjoy.

“Listen, Emerald, I think what you’re getting at here is this question of whether men, parents, women, should have paternity and maternity leave,” Psaki said. “And the answer is absolutely yes. In our view, that is the policy of this administration, that is what we’re pressing to make law so it’s a reality for women, parents, fathers across the country and we’re not going to back away from that.”
