According to former White House adviser Kellyanne Conway — a.k.a. the Queen of “alternative facts” — the only reason that former President Donald Trump was impeached a second time is because the Biden administration insisted that it be done.
Just one problem with that: Biden had not yet taken office at the time.
During an appearance on Fox News Monday afternoon, Conway was asked about President Joe Biden’s falling poll numbers, to which she replied:
“The third thing that’s happened with Joe Biden in these polls is that the center has fallen out for him. Those people in the center who said he was going to unify, he’s going to be bipartisan. Do you realize the most bipartisan action the Biden administration has taken, the most interested they’ve been in reaching out across the aisle and getting Republican votes was impeachment?
“That tells you all you need to know about how they are fueling the divisions that are in this country.”
The historical record, however, suggests that would have been impossible, as Trump’s second impeachment took place on January 13, 2021 and Biden didn’t take the oath of office until Jan. 20.
Also, Trump’s second impeachment was for his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, on the very same day that Congress was in joint session to confirm the results of the 2020 election and certify the electoral votes from the states. How in the world was the “Biden administration” going to be “getting Republican votes” when it had not yet been certified as the winner?
Additionally, Conway’s claim that Biden hasn’t been bipartisan is also belied by the facts. The current president has already passed several major pieces of legislation with bipartisan support. Most recently, Biden’s infrastructure bill received affirmative votes from 19 GOP senators.
It’s been almost a year since Conway and her boss were booted from the White House by the American voters, but she and her cohorts are still lying about anything and everything.
