Former Vice President Joe Biden isn’t even the Democratic presidential nominee yet and Republicans like Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) are already vowing to impeach him on day one if he wins the 2020 Election against incumbent President Donald Trump.
For months, Republicans have been accusing Democrats of using impeachment as a political weapon even though evidence and witness testimony proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Trump abused his power when he tried to extort Ukraine into investigating his political opponents.
But now as Republicans prepare to acquit Trump to conclude the impeachment trial they rigged to protect him, Republicans appear to be focusing on revenge.
During an interview with Bloomberg News over the weekend, Ernst claimed that Republicans are prepared to impeach Biden even though he hasn’t been charged with any crime nor is there proof that he committed one.
And they can’t say he abused his presidential power because he will have hardly had time to sit at the Oval Office desk before Republicans introduce articles of impeachment. And Ernst blamed Democrats for it.
“I think this door of impeachable whatever has been opened,” Ernst said. “Joe Biden should be very careful what he’s asking for because, you know, we can have a situation where if it should ever be President Biden, that immediately, people, right the day after he would be elected would be saying, ‘Well, we’re going to impeach him.’”
Again, Biden did nothing wrong related to Ukraine. Trump was only interested in Ukraine announcing a sham investigation. It was never about actual corruption, it was about kneecapping his political rival by smearing his name.
So, unlike the Trump impeachment, impeaching Biden would truly be a political impeachment by petty Republicans like Ernst.
Of course, Ernst would have to win re-election herself, which will be an uphill battle since she has a low approval rating in her home state of Iowa. Furthermore, articles of impeachment can only be introduced and passed in the House, which is currently controlled by Democrats.
The fact that Republicans are already chomping at the bit to impeach Biden should tell Americans everything they need to know about Republicans. They are nothing more than rabid partisans who will sink to any low to remain in power. There’s no legal reason to impeach Biden and they know it. This is all about retribution and that’s as good a reason as any to make sure Republicans lose the majority for good so they can never follow through on their un-American threat.
