Michael Cohen, a former attorney of Donald Trump, expressed his concerns on MSNBC host Katie Phang’s show in response to a Donald Trump Truth Social post. The first of his rants beginning Friday night. (we cover the second new post below in the article as well) In the post, Trump called on his followers to “Protest, take our nation back” while also claiming he is on the verge of being arrested.

Cohen believes Trump is attempting to incite a similar wave of violence as the one that occurred on Jan. 6th. He believes Trump was likely contacted by the district attorney’s office and acted accordingly.

“It’s eerily similar to the battle cry that he put out just prior to the January 6th insurrection, especially including the call for protests,” Cohen said.

He went on to agree with prosecutor Andrew Weissman’s statement that it would have been smarter for Trump to call for peaceful protests. “He doesn’t want a peaceful protest,” Cohen claimed. “He wants another violent clash on his behalf.”

Cohen and Weissman could be onto something. The one word that didn’t appear in Trump’s social media rants was “peaceful.” Trump managed to use that word before the riots, albeit off hand and just once after months, if not years of fanning the flames. Here, he didn’t even bother.

“Protest, take our nation back!” said Trump, whose supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021, to try to overturn his 2020 presidential election defeat.

And if folks think Trump’s post was a one-off rant, think again. Just this afternoon, Trump is doubling down on his calls for his supporters to rise up over his imminent arrest in New York, perhaps violently. Once again, any mention of peace or doing things peacefully is notably absent.

Trump is claiming that basically everyone who doesn’t support him is “killing our nation” and his supporters are currently “sitting back and watching.” He then calls for his supporters to “save America” and “protest, protest, protest!!!”

Trump saw January 6, 2021 as a “protest” — one that was full of “love.” He is apparently hoping his MAGA and QAnon supporters still are full of love for him come Tuesday before, during, and after his expected arrest.

If folks think this might be just random venting, they might want to consider the words of political analyst, Glenn Kirschner who said, “He knows precisely what he is doing. He used similar language to incite, first of all, to entice his supporters to come to D.C. on January 6th. and then he proceeded to incite imminent, lawless action and he has done it all over again.”

Check out Phang’s conversation with Michael Cohen and Andrew Weissman below …

It is also worth mentioning that at this point, Trump should be keenly and uniquely aware that calling people to “protest” and taking the country back from people he says are “killing our nation” and omitting any mention of doing it peacefully will only bolster the case against him over the failed coup on January 6, 2021. After everything that has happened since then, he should be bending over backwards to not incite violence. Instead, he seems to be yelling for it even more than he did then. Prosecutors could end up having a field day with this evidence that Trump is volunteering to them.
