Even though he’s about to take an oath and swear that he will be a completely impartial juror in the Senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) made it clear Wednesday evening that he wants the process to be a whitewashed, rigged kangaroo court.

During an appearance on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show, Graham said “the best thing for the American people is to end this crap as quickly as possible.” He then added:

“To have a trial in the Senate. Bipartisan acquittal of the president and on Feb. 4th, when the president comes into the House chamber to deliver the State of the Union, he will have been acquitted by the Senate, he will be the strongest he’s ever been politically.

“And when it comes to Donald Trump ― all that stuff you’ve just named ― the best is yet to come Sean.”

However, at the same time Graham was declaring victory for Trump, Lev Parnas, who helped cook up and carry out the Ukraine bribery scandal that has led to Trump’s impeachment, was appearing on “The Rachel Maddow Show” and asserting that the president was intimately involved in the plot. Parnas also implicated Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and Attorney General William Barr, telling Maddow:

“President Trump knew exactly what was going on.”

Senator Graham also projected Trump’s Senate impeachment trial would mean that Republicans win control of the House and Senate and that the president will be reelected in November:

“We’re going to get the House back, we’re going to keep the Senate majority and President Trump’s gonna be reelected, and one of the reasons is the way they’ve conducted themselves.”

Granted, what Lindsey Graham had to say is exactly what the White House wants to believe and project: That everything is fine. But with Trump’s poll numbers already shaky and more evidence coming out daily about the president’s involvement in the Ukraine scandal, the senator’s rosy predictions don’t seem to line up with reality.
