A senior aide to President Donald Trump referred to California as “occupied territory” in a tweet to announce the arrival of Trump for a campaign fundraiser in the Golden State.
Joe Grogan, who serves as director of the Domestic Policy Council in the Trump administration, sent out this tweet shortly after Air Force One touched down in California:
Just landed in California. POTUS power swing through occupied territory. https://t.co/3juICy6NHN

CNN notes that Grogan’s tweet is just the latest in a long-running feud the administration has been stoking since Trump took office:
“The President has bashed the state before for its immigration and environmental policies. He lost the state to his 2016 Democratic rival Hillary Clinton by a wide margin, for which he blames the loss on unfounded claims of illegal voting.
“He’s also waged a battle against the state’s lawmakers. Two of them — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff — led the push to impeach him.”
It didn’t take long before a torrent of responses to Grogan began appearing on social media. Take a look:
My God, you people are hateful.

Occupied by… Americans? Americans that pay you. Have several seats, you soggy walnut.

The only people “occupying” California are the same people occupying Texas, Florida, and Alabama. If you don’t like them, decline 15% of your income, since they contribute that or more. #BeBetter

Nice to know you think Americans are the enemy.

Occupied by loyal, law-abiding Americans, unlike the Oval Office at the moment.

It speaks poorly of Trump that he would ever hire such an awful person.
“Occupied territory?”
Stop pushing for another Civil War — slavery is never going to be legalized again no matter how hard the racists try.

BLUE STATES like California & New York are the economic engines of the United States.
BLUE STATES like California & Massachusetts are the educational engines of the United States.
If California were a nation-state, it would have the fifth largest economy in the f*cking world.
