On Sunday morning, President Donald Trump saw a posting from ESPN regarding boxer Mike Tyson and decided he’d add his own comment. But based on the reactions Trump received for his tweet, he probably should have remained silent.

Here’s Trump’s tweet:

Apparently, Tyson is trying to make yet another comeback as a boxer, even though his best days are behind him.

However, what upset most people who saw Trump’s tweet was the fact that it appeared he was patting a convicted rapist on the back. As CNN notes, Trump has a habit of excusing Tyson’s rape conviction:

“Tyson was found guilty of raping 18-year-old Desiree Washington, a Miss Black America contestant, in a hotel room. After the 1992 verdict, Trump argued that Tyson didn’t necessarily deserve prison time.

“‘You have a young woman that was in his room, his hotel room late in the evening at her own will. You have a young woman who was seen dancing for the beauty contest [the next day], dancing with a big smile on her face, looked happy as could be.'”

Reaction to Trump’s tweet was immediate:

68,000 Americans are dead from the novel coronavirus, 30 million are unemployed, and the GDP has fallen nearly 5 percent over the past couple of months. Meanwhile, our so-called “president” is sitting around tweeting out compliments about a man who violently raped an 18-year-old girl.

If this doesn’t prove we need to dump Trump in November, then nothing does.
