President Donald Trump continues to obsess over the Russia investigation and his attempt to turn it into the imaginary “Obamagate” scandal, even going so far as to enlist Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to play a role in the scheme.

Trump is desperately insisting that his Russia scandal was a hoax perpetrated by Democrats during the end of the Obama administration to take him down. It all stems from Attorney General Bill Barr orchestrating the DOJ decision to drop the case against disgraced former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, whom Trump claims was framed.

Except Flynn really did lie to FBI agents, which is a felony, and acted as an unregistered foreign agent. Flynn even pleaded guilty to the charges against him in federal court. There’s no conspiracy here as Trump would like us all to believe.

But now he wants McConnell to get involved and open investigations into Obama administration officials, and tagged Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) at the end.

Again, the Obama administration did nothing wrong. The DOJ and FBI rightfully investigated Russian interference with the 2016 Election, which the Senate Intelligence Committee confirmed did happen on Trump’s behalf. Trump also repeatedly obstructed the investigation conducted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, crimes that Trump could be prosecuted for after he leaves office.

Trump is also urging Graham to call former President Barack Obama to testify to the Senate, forcing Graham to warn Trump to “be careful what you wish for.”

Indeed, forcing Obama to testify about a scandal that never happened would certainly open the door for a Democratic majority Senate to haul Trump’s orange a** in to testify about his various very real scandals, including his effort to blackmail Ukraine into investigating his political rivals.

So far, McConnell is resisting getting involved because he knows this is a path that would destroy the GOP, not the Democrats. After all, persecuting Obama would definitely energize Democrats to vote this November.
