Vice President Mike Pence engaged in some textbook gaslighting during an appearance on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show Wednesday evening, asserting that the Trump administration has overseen record job growth in the United States.
According to the vice president, Trump has “seen us through the worst pandemic in 100 years” and “we’ve already created more jobs in the last three months than Joe Biden and Barack Obama created in their eight years in office.”

The problem is, that’s simply not true, as The Balance notes: 8.9 million jobs were created during Obama’s presidency. In contrast, only 4.7 million jobs have been created during Trump’s tenure as president, and many of those have been lost during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Pence’s blatant lie led to a spate of fact-checking on social media:
You destroyed 40 million jobs, and got about half back.
That is a lot of jobs you “created” in the past three months.
But only because you destroyed a lot more before that. https://t.co/UnniPizaI9

People going back to work is not job creation

ARE YOU SERIOUS WITH THIS???
In the three months prior to that YOU LOST MORE JOBS THAN IN THE PREVIOUS 100 YEARS COMBINED!!!
My god.
Anyone who falls for this shit needs their head examined. I mean it’s just blatant, textbook, dictionary definition gaslighting.

This is a lie
If you can’t figure that out, then you need intervention.

What an incredibly misleading claim. First of all, job growth dropped by 50% from last month. Also, almost all of those jobs were jobs that existed prior to the pandemic lol pic.twitter.com/PkFPqRjXBR
