If perhaps you were wondering just how completely former President Donald Trump has turned the Republican Party into a cult of personality, a new Economist/YouGov poll shows just how deeply deluded many in the GOP have become since Trump first announced he would run for the White House back in 2015.

The poll, which asked “Who was the worst President in U.S. history?” showed that the majority of those polled believed that Trump was the worst POTUS in history while former President Barack Obama was rated the best, edging out Abraham Lincoln, who saved the country during the Civil War and preserved the nation in the process.

Among Republicans, however, Trump was named the best president of all time, besting both Ronald Reagan and Lincoln. Trump was cited as the best POTUS ever by 36 percent of Republicans who were polled, far outpacing the 18 percent of those who chose Reagan and 13 percent who named Lincoln as the best of all time.

Mediaite notes that Trump also scored high among GOPers when it came to other metrics:

The survey also asked “As a President, how do you think Donald Trump will go down in history?”

A 54 percent majority responded either “below average” or “poor,” with 44 percent responding “poor,” but among Republicans, 69 percent rated his legacy favorably, with 42 percent responding “outstanding” and 27 percent rating his legacy “above average.”

However, among the overall American electorate represented in the Economist/YouGov poll, Trump was viewed unfavorably, which matches the last Gallup poll taken when he left office which showed him with the lowest approval rating in the history of the Gallup survey, an dubious distinction which no future president seems likely to dip below. Yet in that same Gallup poll, Trump had an approval rating of 88 percent among those who identified as Republicans.

As has long been expected, Trump will indeed go down in history as the worst president to ever hold the office. The fact that Obama is now seen as the best is some incredibly sweet irony that must be driving the Donald crazy.
