On Saturday evening, the Republican National Committee (RNC) held a donor retreat at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago retreat in Palm Beach, Florida, and by the time Trump finished speaking, the deepening rift inside the GOP had been rent asunder and turned into a cavern the size of the Grand Canyon.

The Daily Beast reports that Trump began by again repeating the lie that the 2020 presidential election had been stolen from him, and then he began attacking other members of his party in vicious and childish ways:

“The source noted that the ex-president dinged his former VP Mike Pence for not fighting harder to subvert American democracy to keep Trump in power, but in particular went after Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. This source did not immediately respond to questions about specific phrasing but, according to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, Trump alleged that ‘a real leader’ would not have bowed to the outcome and certification of Biden’s 2020 victory. Another source familiar with the event told The Daily Beast the former president trashed McConnell as a ‘dumb son of a bitch’ in a non-scripted portion of his Saturday night address to GOP donors.”

The failed one-term former president also reiterated some of his favorite insults about anyone that came to mind:

“And according to Washington Post journalist Josh Dawsey, Trump also made time to vent pet grievances about ‘Oprah Winfrey and Barack Hussein Obama,’ and to accuse Dr. Anthony Fauci of being ‘so full of crap.'”

Prior to his remarks, Trump’s team had released a text of what he was expected to tell attendees. It reads like an airing of grievances straight out of a Festivus celebration, with the former president lashing out in all directions, with Trump attempting to once again pretend that he wasn’t responsible for his humiliating loss to President Joe Biden:

“The former president was set to talk to his adoring crowd about ‘ridiculous woke corporations,’ Biden’s supposedly ‘AMERICA LAST’ policy agenda, and ‘critical race theory,’ among other topics. The speech marked yet another instance of Trump basking in his continued position as the dominant leader in the party (despite the GOP’s loss of the House, Senate, and White House on his watch), and endeavoring to sustain his grip on the conservative movement and Republican circles of power and influence.”

But no matter how he tries, how hard he rages, or how much he insults others, Donald Trump is now largely irrelevant. He’s a failed, one-term loser who is despised by the majority of American voters. Oh, and he’s also facing the prospect of spending the rest of his life behind bars.

If Trump wants to see a real “dumb son of a bitch,” he doesn’t have to look any further than the nearest mirror.
